Microphlebectomy

Microphlebectomy is an outpatient treatment to remove varicose veins. It is sometimes performed alone or with endovenous vein ablation. It requires local pain relief and does not require sutures.

After numbing the skin, your care team will remove the varicose vein through tiny incisions. When these incisions heal, they will leave small scars. In most cases, the scars will be hard to see. As you heal, the blood flow of the removed vein will be redirected to nearby healthy veins.

Your care team will explain how you should prepare for the procedure, what to expect and what care you will need afterward. Learn more about the Northwestern Medicine Vein Center.
